When Martin Zurmuhle photographs buildings or landscapes, the object is there, permanent and immobile. The perfect photograph appears by carefully selecting the best place to set the camera, creating the light or waiting for the light. The process is academic, mechanical. When Zurmuhle shoots nudes, the process is intellectual: each shot shaped like a potter with clay, planned like an architect over his drawing board, and then created with the illusive element of chance.
