Squid (2) 1st Place - Outstanding Achievement
Title:Squid (2)
Squid, the symbol of tenacity. 2 squids embracing each other in a luxury pot of dutch delftware. Their embrace is so intense and powerful, they squeeze the water out that is dripping over the table into the (painted) waterfall. It is part of the series "Withoos meets Withoos", an exquisiete fusion of my photographic paintings and the 17th century art of my ancestor Matthias Withoos. It is a combination of the original paintings of Matthias Withoos and my reflection on his art works and is represented in several international galleries and art fairs.

Biography: Hans Withoos's career spans more than twenty years. Although highly successful in his commercial and international fashion work with clients from Brasil to Spain to Italy, the United States and Morocco, he is also prolific in his autonomous work, making many photography series over the years. Hans's photography is set in the world of abundance and artifice - the smell of decadence wafts towards the viewer. It is a world simultaneously familiar and different. In his exaggerated scenes, the figures crowding the images become archetypes, and the viewer is overcome by a sense of alienation.
