2nd Place - Merit of Excellence Title:Coming to America This photo is dedicated to my mother, who came to America through Ellis Island from Hungary in 1923. I grew up hearing her tell about her experience so when I went to photograph the abandoned hospital on Ellis Island this past spring all I could think about was standing in my mother and grandmother shoes when they came to America and wondering what they were thinking when they saw the Statue of Liberty for the first time.
