Valhalla Rising
Title:Valhalla Rising
Throughout the previous day, I had been watching the changing weather, feeling that something extraordinary was going to happen. Sleep did not come easy. I spent hours in anticipation of what might unfold in the field. I hiked up a mountain path in the middle of the night and arrived at a cliff ledge 2000 feet above the majestic Lysefjord. I balanced my camera on the edge of the cliff and waited patiently. I knew the light would change quickly so I needed to be ready. Just as the sun pierced the horizon an incredible glow illuminated the scene. The golden light gave the scene a really special mood. My heart raced as I pressed the shutter capturing the raw beauty of this natural wonder.

Biography: Torleif Lie is an award winning fine art photographer based in Stavanger, Norway. His work captures not only the beauty of the natural world, but also the essence of a particular place. On the surface of his images the viewer can perhaps see an environmental message, or a celebration of the beauty of the natural world, but in the depth of his photographs one can sense a homage to the cultures that have inhabited these extraordinary locations for millenniums, the true essence of what is in front of us with its ancient resilience and beauty.
