Title:Melon and Peanuts
When traveling, as often as not, in a new town I'll put a lot of effort into finding a hotel with a great roof or room with a balcony over an interesting scene. In this case however, the morning after arriving in the seldom-touristed town of Mawlamyine in Myanmar, the liveliest morning action was, as usual, the city market miles from my hotel. Looking for options, I spotted a corner hotel smack-dab in the middle of the action and managed to talk myself onto the third floor balcony outside guest rooms. In the same way that buying the most expensive cup of coffee at a French café can get you a prime spot for people watching on a Parisian street, numerous orders of coffee and snacks ordered from the restaurant reserved for hotel guests - along with the fact that the hotel was empty and the staff found me entertaining - meant I could stay for hours until the harsh equatorial sun caused myself and the fresh produce to wilt and the floorshow was over for the day.
