Title:ELECTRIFIED-2 Summer monsoon storm over Tucson, Arizona. Low, fast-moving clouds glow an eerie pinkish orange, color produced by sodium vapor lights that illuminate much of the city. Since 1970, Tucson has had outdoor lighting ordinances to help preserve the beauty of the night sky and to protect southeastern Arizona's astronomical observatories from "light pollution." The use of sodium vapor lamps and light fixtures that direct light towards the ground have helped, while saving energy.
